Our Story
Two artists.
One game.
Zero boring mats.
It started the way the best things do: at a table, on a rainy Oregon night, with a thrifted set of tiles and no idea what we were doing.
We're two artists and best friends who had spent years making things together (art, clothes, and an instagram account). Then someone taught us mahjong. The click of the tiles, the rhythm of the wall, the way four people could lose three hours of the Oregon winter without noticing. We were hooked by the second hand.
But we kept noticing one thing. The game was beautiful, the tiles were beautiful, and the mat underneath it all was either a plain felt square or a print so loud it could double as a resort-wear catalog. Nothing that felt like art. Nothing that felt like us. Just a generic background for one of the most gorgeous games ever invented.
So we did what artists do. We started creating.

Frogs in wizard robes. Dachshunds in hot dog buns. Wild pink panthers chasing each other around the table. Every mat began as a concept, because we believe the surface you play on should feel as much a part of the night as the people sitting around it.
In 2026, Mahjong Mood was born here in Oregon, somewhere between the vineyards, the fog, and far too many late-night game sessions over wine. Our mission is simple: to give this ancient game a modern stage.
Every mat we make is an invitation to gather, to play, to linger over one more hand, and to set a table worth remembering.
